About this home

The Engstrand Residence by Sim Bruce Richards is one of the most engaging examples of the architect’s woodsy, organic modernism. Historically designated (with Mills Act property tax savings in place), the home offers intoxicating views from every room. The interior hosts a number of built-in works by artist James Hubbell. Nestled comfortably amidst granite boulders and mature trees, the 0.82-acre site also hosts a myriad of potential formal and informal dining and entertaining opportunities. The pool and spa area is sited to offer privacy for you and your relaxed guests. Beyond the 4 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms inside the home, there is an additional pool-adjacent activity room and half-bath. An additional 1-bedroom, 1-bathroom apartment over the carport has served the owners as a rental as well as professional studio. Since their purchase, the present owners embarked on a number of significant improvements including: new HVAC system, pool equipment, solar, electric car charger, drought-tolerant landscaping with automatic irrigation, and whole-house water filtration among other projects.
